Suicidal Subject on B Highway

On 5/11/13, Bates County Sheriff’s Office received a call in regards to a suicidal subject on B Highway.  Subject stated he was going to crash his car into a tree.  Deputies responded to the area when they received information that the subject was possibly on P Highway.  Deputies responded to the area and located a car driving down a gravel road and attempted to stop the vehicle.  The vehicle took off and traveled down the gravel road at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle continued at high rates of speed and traveled into St. Clair County.  The vehicle then crashed into a large fence post and came to rest in the middle of the road.  Deputies then took the driver into custody.  The driver was identified as Marcus Balthrope,9/18/81, of rural Appleton City. 

Balthrope was transported by Ambulance to the Appleton City Hospital for treatment.  Balthrope was then released and transported to the Bates County Jail.  Balthrope was charged with Fleeing to Elude with a bond of $5,000 Cash or Surety.
