More Pictures: Mountain lion that died after car hit it in Missouri

A car hit and badly injured a mountain lion on Interstate 44 in eastern Laclede County, Missouri early Tuesday Morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers started hearing about the injured mountain lion around 4 a.m., but couldn't find it then.

The Troopers went back to the scene about 6:30 and found it still alive, and then killed it to stop its suffering; its legs were paralyzed. It was just east of the Gasconade River bridge on I-44.

This is the 54th mountain lion confirmation in Missouri since 2002. We encourage you to report any mountain lion sightings at http://mdc.mo.gov/node/4167. --Heather@MDC
