Bill G. Long, son of Elton James Long & Leta Ruth (Keeton) was born January 31, 1945 in rural Appleton City, Missouri. He passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Ellett Memorial Hospital at the age of 70 after a battle with cancer.

Bill lived in the Appleton City area all his life, graduating from ACHS in 1963. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where he attended and was baptized.

On October 28, 1967, he was united in marriage to Sandra (Waite) in Vista, MO. They made their home in Appleton City where they were blessed with two sons, Jeff and Mark. Two boys were perfect for Bill to continue his love for coaching and playing baseball, which spilled over to becoming a friend to every boy who played for him and the ones who played against him.

Bill worked for the USPS for 36 years, serving part time to full time city carrier in Appleton City and as Postmaster at Rockville where he retired. Being the workaholic he was, he always had a part time job on the side. Along with others jobs, Bill was the Cable TV local service man and the car detailing which turned into a full time business “Long’s Detail” after retirement.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Elton Long and brother, Nelson Long. He is survived by his mother, Leta Ruth (Keeton); wife, Sandra (Waite); Sons: Jeff and wife Katie (Gengler) and Mark and wife Misty (Dains); Grandchildren: Jenna, Kyle, Peyton, Jarrett and Jace and many nieces and nephews. Bill had a very special bond with his sisters-in-law and their husbands: Linda “Skip” & Jack Mead, Betty & Gerald Stephans and Debbie & Dean Walker.
