Orlan was born on September 28, 1922 in Tipton, Missouri to Ollie and Bessie (Carey) Schultz. He married Genevieve (Genny) Pauline Smith on February 14, 1946 in Tipton, Missouri. Genevieve sadly preceded him in death in 2010 after 64 years of marriage.

Orlan is survived by his son, Francis (Frank) K. Schultz and daughter-in-law, Janelle (Clark) Schultz of Frisco, Texas; grandson, Neal R. Schultz and wife, Johanne of Frisco, Texas; great-grandson, Austin R. Schultz of Frisco, Texas; nieces Ruth Ann Thiel of Prairie Village, Kansas, Mary Lee Hall Wilson and husband, Larry of Jacksonville, Florida and close family friend, Anthony Bennett of Plano, Texas. He also leaves behind other nieces, nephews, family members and dear friends.

Orlan served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and was the recipient of the Purple Heart awarded for wounds received as a result of enemy action at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands. Upon returning from his military deployment, Orlan went into commercial construction development where he supervised commercial and business construction of numerous hotels, banks, fast food restaurants, shopping malls in Missouri, Florida, Kansas and Alabama.

Orlan prided himself on his knack for making anything in his yard grow and his "green thumb" was apparent from the beautiful landscapes he produced from each homesite where his family lived. He and his wife had been long term members of Disciples of Christ Christian Church and served as Deacon and on the Building Board.
