William C. “Bill” Dines, 75, of Appleton City, Missouri, departed this life June 30, 2015 at Ellett Memorial Hospital after a hard fought battle with health issues.

Bill was born December 30, 1939 in Johnson City, Missouri, the son of Cecil Theodore and Alta Dessie (Miller) Dines. He spent his early childhood in Johnson City and helped on the family farm until the family moved west of Appleton City. He attended Appleton City school for several years before going to work at age 17 for a coal company as a dynamite tamper. Bill had many other jobs throughout his life. He began studying about turkey breeding and applied his knowledge to help many Missouri and Kansas turkey farms. He was a nationally renowned breeder, even traveling to Canada to improve their program. He tried his hand at cattle farming for awhile too. Later, Bill owned and operated a sawmill and also enjoyed rebuilding vehicles. In most recent years he was a buyer and seller of used items; attending many sales and auctions where he found things that caught his eye, bought them and then would try to find the perfect buyer for them or often just keep them himself. After his health declined and he was homebound, he remained fathful to bartering by listening to Swap N Shop daily. On October 18, 1961 Bill and Barbara Campbell were united in marriage. During the years they were married they made their home in Appleton City where they were blessed with four children.

Bill had served with the AC Volunteer Fire Department for many years; he was also a long-time member of the Appleton City Masonic Lodge #412 AF & AM.Throughout his life Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching westerns on TV. He also loved family reunions where he could reacquaint himself with relatives from far and wide.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Bettie Sue Dines; and an infant son Gary Wayne Dines. Survivors include his children, William C. Dines, Jr. (Susan Phillips), Sharron Schellman (Gary) and Tammy Miller (Randy); his grandchildren: KeLyn , Shelby and Campbell Dines, Heather Lawrence, Danielle and Kendall Schellman, Rebecca Capps and Tory Horne; great-grandchildren: Stormy Powell, Jacob, Aiden and Evan Lawrence, Hunter Reavis and Hailey Hagg; siblings Jerry Dines (Debbie), Sally McSlarrow (Dan), Linda Roush (Charlie), Mike Dines, Andy Dines and Tommy Dines (Kathy); many nieces, nephews and cousins; close friends Mike, Bonnie and Jeremy Geyer who helped Bill with the many needs of a homebound person, caring for him like “family” even after he moved into the nursing home. Bill will be greatly missed by his many family members and friends.
