Obituary - Raymond Ross Shepherd


Raymond Ross Shepherd, 83, of Mound City, Kansas, was born November 28, 2015, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Gerald E. and Frances E. (Raab) Shepherd. He departed this life Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at his home surrounded with love and family.

Raymond was a 1949, Kansas City Lillis High School graduate. He was a United States Korean War Navy Veteran.

On September 2, 1968, he was united in marriage to June Marie Springer in Clinton, Missouri.

Raymond was a gifted welder. He was an iron worker with the Union Local #10 in Lawrence, Kansas. Later he owned and operated his own company Superior Welder in Lawrence. He was a member of the Eagle’s Lodge of Lawrence, American Legion Post #0058 of Mound City, 32 degree Mason and a member of the Shriner’s Abdullah Temple of Lawrence.

In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening. He was a proud father and grandfather; a true family man and patriarch.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gerald Shepherd; and one sister, Mary Deeds.

He is survived by his wife June of Mound City; three sons, Rick (and Guen LawRance) Peek of Louisburg, Kansas, Donald Shepherd and David Shepherd, both of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Dena (and Jeff Hemus) Shipley of Mound City, and Roberta Kimlin of Shawnee, Kansas; one brother, Richard Shepherd of Florida; three sisters, Patricia Lea of San Bernadino, California, Kathleen (and Jim) Milam of Edwards, Missouri, Julie (and Phillip) Salley of Montgomery, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2015, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2015, at the funeral home. Reverend Andy Keltner will officiate. Graveside military services will follow in the Staley-Mound Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Navy and the V.F.W Post #3118 Honor Guard. Casket bearers are Jackie Kimlin, Josh Kimlin, Nicholas LawRance, Jess Morley, Chad Shipley, and Tom Shipley. Honorary casket bearer is Brian Shipley.

Memorial contributions are suggested the Cancer Society of America and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
