Hume news

The community wishes to extend their sympathy to the family of Arlen Cathey of Mound City, KS. Mrs. Cathey previously taught in the Hume School. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

The community also wishes to express their sympathy to the family of Joe Daughtery of Fort Scott, formerly of Hume. Our prayers go out to his children and to the Cannon family.

A birthday card shower is being held for Freda Shepherd. You may mail your cards to Freda at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Home, 6416 Long Ave. Rm 110b, Shawnee, KS 66216. Freda will be celebrating her birthday later on this month.

The 050 Club held a carry in dinner on Monday, July 11 at the Hume community Center. Lots of good food and visiting were enjoyed by several who attended. The next one will be a carry in supper on Monday, July 25 at 6:00 p.m. all are invited to attend. The “050” stands for Over Fifty Organization, it is a chance for the community to get together for good ole fashion fun, visiting, eating and playing cards, dominoes, etc. All are welcome to attend even if you haven’t hit the 50 yet!

A huge crowd attended the Everett and Karen Irwin annual 4th of July cookout on the evening of July 4. Lots of fun, eating and fireworks were enjoyed by several.

The Hume Food Pantry held their first distribution on Saturday, July 9. The next distribution will be Saturday, August 13. On Sunday evening, July 17 at 5:00 p.m. the Hume Alliance Ministry will hold an “Ice Cream in the Park” as a fundraiser. Everyone is welcome to bring homemade ice cream or dessert. Come and enjoy a good evening of fellowship and singing.

Cassie Irwin, Bennett and Isaac, Cathie Wooldridge, Paxton and Easton, Karen Irwin, Lane Irwin, Kenzee and Kamee Snider enjoyed going to Deanna Rose Farmstead on Tuesday afternoon, July 5 following Easton’s Doctors appointment at Children’s Mercy that morning.
