Nevada man arrested on burglary and property damage charges in St. Clair County

Dillion Bennett
On July 20, Dillion Bennett, 32, Nevada, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a probation violation on an original class C felony burglary second degree charge and a class D felony charge of property damage first degree. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

The original charges stem from an incident on Dec. 31, 2015 when St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to a residence on SW 101 Road in reference to a stealing in progress. The property is owned by David Lile and the residence was recently destroyed by fire.

Deputies arrived on scene and located Bennett sitting in a truck filled with metal scrap items taken from the structure. The investigation revealed Bennett did not have permission to be on the property. The owner arrived on scene and identified the items and advised a metal outbuilding that was not damaged by the fire was also missing from the property.

He noted the metal in the back of the truck was from the missing building. Items that were inside the building were found beside the truck. Damage to the building was estimated at $1,500 and the value of the items taken was estimated at $1,000.
