Obituary - Laura Emma (Marquardt) Rapp

The funeral service for for Mrs. Rapp will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City, Missouri. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Joel Meyer.
A visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the church.

Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Prairie City, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any memorial gifts be made to The Lutheran Hour or Zion Lutheran Church. These may be left at Hill & Son Funeral Home at any time or brought to the service.

Laura Emma (Marquardt) Rapp, daughter of John Frederick William and Emma Magdalena (Fischer) Marquardt was born January 19, 1921 in Prairie City, Missouri. She was Baptized February 13, 1921 and Confirmed April 28, 1935, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prairie City. 

Laura was united in marriage to Norman Frank Rapp on March 26, 1945. To this union, three children were born. She passed away on October 15, 2016 in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 95.

Laura graduated from Rockville High School. She cared for many babies & families in the Prairie City and Appleton City areas in her early adult years. She also worked as a dental assistant in Appleton. Upon their marriage, Laura worked side by side with Norman in Prairie City for 6 years while he was a partner at the cheese factory; then farmed in the Rockville area until moving to Montrose in 1956, where Laura was no stranger to hard work as a farmer’s wife. Laura served both the Zion Lutheran community, as well as the youth in Henry county through 4-H. She loved cooking and baking, sharing her food with family and friends, enjoyed gardening and found joy in helping others. Laura & Norman moved to Appleton City in 1994.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norman; daughter Priscilla Louise Rapp; son Terry Don Rapp and his wife Patty; brother Adolph and sister-in-law Josephine Marquardt; sister and brother-in-law Elda and Everett Bauer; brother and sister-in-law Arnold and Naomi Marquardt.

Laura is survived by her daughter, Nancy Goth and husband Norman of Springfield, Missouri; grandson Jody Rapp and wife Connie of Springfield, Missouri; granddaughter Tanya Snethen and husband Mike of Montrose, Missouri; grandson Nolan Goth and wife Jordan of College Station, Texas; great granddaughters Abbey and Emily Rapp; great grandsons Terry and Nicholas Snethen; and many nephews and nieces and friends.

Laura’s family and her faith were always the most important things in her life. She will be missed.
