Obituary - Edith Marie Surbaugh

Edith Marie Surbaugh, age 81, of Urich, Missouri passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Shawnee Mission Medical, Shawnee Mission, Kansas. 

 Funeral services will be 10:30AM, Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Vansant-Mills Funeral Chapel, Clinton, Missouri. 

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00PM, Monday, May 29 also at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri.

Edith Marie (Walker) Surbaugh was born to Clarence and Mary Walker on February 12, 1936. She was born in Nebraska and graduated High School from Carthage, Illinois. She lived with two elderly sisters and worked at the phone company as an operator. She met the love of her life Charles L. Surbaugh through phone. She would call her parents and one time he answered the phone and talked to her before calling her parents to the phone. They got married on December 18, 1954 and were married for 60 years. To This union were born four children, Teresa May, Leon Everett, Gayle Renee and Glen Kevin. They lived most of their married life in Henry County.

She was a homemaker and minister's wife. Through their work of the ministry she touched many lives in many states. She did lots of volunteer work through PTA, school, 4H, and clubs. She loved to quilt, fish, gardening and canning. She could stretch a meal to feed who ever dropped by. She was a member of the KC Primitive Baptist Church where she was a clerk for 25 years. She loved her Lord and was Baptized when she was only 6. She was devoted to family, children, grandchildren, and many more who adopted her as a parent or aunt or sister.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary (Hatcher) Walker, husband, Charles, one sister, daughter-in-law Shelly Surbaugh, and son-in-law, Roger Pile.

She is survived by children, Teresa May Pile Roach (Terry),Garden City, Missouri; Leon Everett Surbaugh (Deborah), Krum, Texas; Gayle Renee Wilson (Barry), Urich, Missouri; Glen Kevin Surbaugh (Kathy), Greenwood, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews and church family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.
