Obituary - Alice M. Means

Alice M. Means
On the morning of Sunday-June 25th, 2017, Alice M. Means, age 86, passed away at Westwood Living Center in Clinton, Missouri. 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M.-Wendsday-June 28, 2017 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton, Missouri. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00am. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri.

Alice Marie (Duschell) Means was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Joseph & Mrytle Duschell on January 8, 1931 and was one of 12 siblings. Of the six boys and six girls, she is survived by two sisters, Lois Aime of Oregon and Opal Pensel of Cape Girardeau. On November 14, 1948 she was married to James Robert Means, her husband and companion of 65 years. Alice and James enjoyed raising cattle and working on their farm east of Clinton. They also enjoyed attending auctions, working in their gardens and canning  fruits and vegetables together. Alice especially loved maintaining her colorful flowerbeds, bird watching, quilting, listening and dancing to good music, tinkering with her chickens, playing cards or dominos and cooking the best food around for miles. But above all, she loved her family, friends and good conversation. Alice was a devout christian and longtime member of Northeast Baptist Church and the VFW Womens Auxilary. 
 
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, James R. Means and grandson, Shane Stringer. Alice is survived by her daughter, Lesa Mitchell and her husband Donnie of Clinton, MO, and their children, Jessica Mitchell-Hoffman and husband Adam, and Marty Mitchell.  Alice is also survived by daughter, Kathleen Green of Republic, MO and her children, Bret Stringer and Sherry Stringer. Alice is also survived by 3 great grandchildren, Mallory, Jaylene, and Andrea, as well as 5 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
 
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.
