Obituary - Arlis "Art" Harris

Arlis "Art" A Harris 
Arlis A "Art" Harris, of Harrisonville, Missouri was born January 28, 1931 in Split Log, Missouri the son of Lester Lafayette and Slyvia Louese (Friend) Harris. He departed this life on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Redwood of Raymore, Raymore, Missouri at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 16 days.

On October 16, 1954, Art was united in marriage to Doris Nadine (Cantrell) Alderton in Garden City, Missouri.

Art was employed as a truck driver for Guys Foods Inc., Liberty, Missouri for almost 40 years until his retirement in 1993. He was a part time farmer and cattleman raising Red Limousin and Black Angus cattle. Art was a former member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church near Harrisonville where he was a Sunday School Teacher and Director. He was a Marine Veteran serving in the Korean War. Art loved playing golf at the Sand Greens in Harrisonville, liked to fish and was a Quail hunter.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris N. Harris on February 19, 2015; two sons, Richard Thomas Harris on December 11, 1955 and Russell D. Alderton on December 25, 2001; twin great-grandsons, Cody and Colby; two sisters, Monte Jo Stogsdill and Patricia Greenhaw.

Art is survived by four children, Doris Ann Briscoe and husband Robert, Harrisonville, Missouri, Joe Alderton and wife Kathleen, Bedford, Wyoming, Melanie Fienen and husband Roger and John A. Harris and wife Connie all of Harrisonville, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Gwen Anderson, Comfrey, Minnesota; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery south of Harrisonville.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Serenity Care Hospice.
