Obituary - Scott A. "Scotty" Shaull

Scott A. "Scotty" Shaull, 87, La Cygne, Kansas passed away on Thursday June 8, 2017 in Topeka, Kansas. He was born March 3, 1930 near La Cygne, Kansas the son of Fred and Hettie Miller Shaull. Scotty attended Star Valley Country School and La Cygne High School graduating in the Class of 1948. 

He married Clara Swann on April 28, 1951 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The following month he began training with the U.S. Army First Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. Scotty served in the Korean Conflict obtaining the rank of Sergeant in the 378th Combat Engineers. 

He then returned to La Cygne in 1953 to resume a farming career that spanned more than six decades until 2014 when he and Clara moved to Atria Hearthstone in Topeka due to failing health. Scotty was a devoted husband, loving father to his two daughters, and proud grandfather and great grandfather. He also deeply loved his community and country and was always quick to help his neighbors and ensured local veterans'' graves were marked with flags each Memorial Day. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mirza Shrine, Scottish Rite and Masonic Lodge. Faith was the backbone of this wonderful man''s life. At the age of thirteen he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the La Cygne Christian Church. Scotty often sang about his love for his Savior and was always grateful for the many blessings God bestowed upon him. He looked to God for strength in his recent years of failing health. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Marjorie Shaull Tribby. 

He is survived by his wife, Clara, daughters, Karen Good (Richard) and Pattie Jamison, four grandchildren: Jeffrey Elliott (Jose), Andria Zimmerman (Lance), John S. Jamison, and Laura Jamison, a niece, Deborah Shorthill, a nephew, Douglas Tribby and ten great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, extended family and members of the La Cygne and Atria Hearthstone communities.

Funeral service will be held at 10 am Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Burial in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday at the Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Shriner''s Childrens Hospital or the House at Midland Care.
