Assault on Officers-Explosives incident in Joplin

Keith Wald
On August 7th 2017 at about 0328 AM an officer with the Joplin Police Department stopped a truck pulling a trailer at 4th and Sergeant for not having trailer lights. Two occupants of the vehicle were contacted. As another officer arrived and exited his vehicle, an occupant of the truck threw an explosive device out the window that immediately exploded.

The truck then fled the area. Officers immediately began a pursuit of the suspect vehicle. At E Street and Sergeant, an occupant of the vehicle threw a second explosive device out of the vehicle, causing a second explosion.

The pursuit continued north and west. Another Joplin Officer, who was responding to assist for the calls for emergency backup and detonations of explosive devices, lost control of their police car at Lone Elm and Surrey northbound. The police car left the roadway and struck a tree.
Nathan Felton

The pursuit went into Cherokee County Kansas and contact with the suspect vehicle was lost in the area of Highway 400 and Messer. No officers were hurt by the explosions and the officer who was involved in the accident declined medical treatment.

We are currently trying to locate both occupants of the truck for First Degree Assault on Law Enforcement along with other charges:
Keith Wald, 34, Joplin
Nathan Felton, 22, Neosho

They were last seen in a 2001 White F-150 extended cab with a broken back left window, Missouri Plate 4MZ291 pulling a flatbed trailer with Missouri Plate 68E6YK. Neither subject should be approached and should be considered dangerous.

Anyone with any information should call 417-623-3131 or 911
