Suspect in custody in Bates County

On 8/15/18 around 1830 hrs Bates County Sheriffs Office received a call in reference to the Michael Runions subject who had ran from Bates County Sheriffs Deputies after a police chase earlier in the day. The caller stated they observed the subject in the trees. 

Deputies responded to the area and set up a perimeter waiting for K-9 units to arrive. K9 Lector and his handler arrived on scene and began to track from the subjects last known location. 

K9 Lector located the subject behind a tree line peeking around the tree looking at the deputy in the roadway. As K9 Lector was attempting to apprehend the suspect, Runion struck K9 Lector in the eye socket cause a small laceration over his eye. K9 Lector held the suspect on the ground until he was secured in handcuffs by the deputies.

Runions was transported to the Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment from the dog bites. Runions was released from the hospital and then transported to the 

Bates County Sheriffs Office where he was booked on his warrants and may face additional charges of felony fleeing, child endangerment, resisting arrest and animal cruelty.
