Miami FCCLA student tops in state scoring

Jaclyn Crawford
Miami Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) had three students, Makayla Fuqua, Samantha Sendejas and Jaclyn Crawford attend the FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Columbia on March 27-29. While attending the conference, Jaclyn Crawford competed in the STAR Events category of Recycle and Redesign. Jaclyn had to follow a rigorous rubric and provide a presentation of up to ten minutes in length, including specific visuals, to a panel of judges. Jaclyn finished extremely well receiving the highest score in the state, allowing her the opportunity to compete at the national level.

This year’s National FCCLA Leadership Conference is being held in Anaheim, California during the second week of July. Jaclyn is currently working on raising the funds that will allow for her to take part in this awesome leadership experience. If you are interested in making a contribution to support this trip please email the Miami FCCLA advisor, Erin Straw at estraw@miami-eagles.k12.mo.us.

From the desk of Senator David Pearce - Creating jobs

Creating Jobs

At the beginning of the session, my colleagues and I decided that we would work on a few main goals, such as job creation and creating a balanced budget. These concepts are not just arbitrary ideals, but are necessary for a strong state and a bright future. The House approved its version of the budget this week and sent it to the Senate for consideration.

A little gift for the procrastinator in all of us...

If you wait until the last minute to file your taxes, you'll get three extra days this year as the official tax deadline has been moved to April 18th. That's because the District of Columbia will observe Emancipation Day on Friday the 15th, even though the official holiday isn't until the next day.

Since the Federal deadline will be the 18th, so will the Missouri and Kansas deadlines as well.

Look out for loose llama...

Bates County Live has received a report that a llama is running loose on 18 Highway, possibly in between Merwin to near CC highway. Use caution if traveling in the area.
