Relay for Life set for June 10th

Helping to raise funds for the American Cancer Society for the past 13 years, the Relay for Life event is all set for June 10th. Last year's event netted $50,127.37 and everyone involved is hoping to surpass that number this year.

Improvements and research in the study and treatment of cancer directly benefit many local folks fighting the disease, making every penny raised of utmost importance.

The 2011 Relay for Life theme is "Betting on a cure". Pledges may be sent to Carol Ann Winburn, Corporate Sponsor Chair at P.O. box 190, Butler Mo. 64730. Your donations are greatly appreciated- please try to send them by May 1st if at all possible.

Highlights from Drexel Promenade

 Drexel students and dates proudly strutted before a large crowd during the ceremonial Promenade yesterday evening at the high school gymnasium, then it was off to the Old Mill in Parkville Mo. for an evening of music, food and fun.

Minor injuries for Butler man in accident near Taberville

Just before noon today, Wendell Harris, 64, sustained minor injuries in an accident on H highway 1/2 mile south of Taberville in St. Clair county. Harris was riding a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle when he was distracted, causing him to lock the brakes and lose control. He was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Spaghetti for the Starz Dinner and Show this evening

Just a reminder that the annual Spaghetti for the Starz Dinner and Show will be held this evening at the Adrian Optimist Building from 5 to 9 p.m. More info on the event can be found on Facebook here.

Road closure reminder...

If you head south on Business 71 in Butler you'll find this sign reminding you that the ramp to South 71 Highway is closed for bridge reconstruction. Rice Road is also closed at the city limit sign; access to the bowling alley and homes will remain open. The bridge project is expected to be completed later this summer.
