Special Spring Services at Fairview Baptist Church at Ballard

Fairview Baptist Church at Ballard will be hosting Church Starter/Pastor Lee Almendarez as a special speaker the week before Easter.

Numerous people from Bates County have gone on mission trips with Fairview to South Texas and Mexico over the past several years. They will remember meeting Brother Lee and worshipping at the church he founded on the south edge of Matamoros, Mexico.

Lee Almendarez has been a key figure in arranging mission activities in Mexico. Known to many of us as simply "Brother Lee", he has coordinated our building several one-room houses, distribution of food through the church which he helped establish in the Santa Maria Colonia and enabled children's ministries as well.

It is Fairview's privilege to host Brother Lee as a special speaker during the Sunday morning worship time on April 17. He will speak again on Sunday evening as a special emphasis for family night to which children and their parents are invited.

He will speak again on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
Tuesday evening will feature a pizza supper at 6:00 for Junior High & Senior High youth.
The community is invited to join us for any or all of these five services.

Fairview Church is located on the South side of Highway 18 approximately one mile west of the Ballard School.

Times for the five special services are:
Sunday morning at 11:00
followed by pot-luck fellowship dinner
Sunday evening at 6:30
Monday evening at 7:00
Tuesday evening Pizza for youth at 6:00
Speaker services at 7:00
Wednesday evening at 7:00

Unwanted prescription drug take back program April 30th

Bates County – On April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Bates County People for People Coalition, Butler Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. No illegal drugs or syringes will be accepted. Bring your medications for disposal to the Bates County Health Center at 501 North Orange, Butler, MO. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Last September, Americans turned in 242,000 pounds—121 tons—of prescription drugs at nearly 4,100 sites operated by the DEA and more than 3,000 state and local law enforcement partners.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S.are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Schaller at 660-679-4434
or Lt. Randy Beshore, Butler Police Department at 660-679-6131.
