Title: Emergency Telecommunicator I
Status: Full time, hourly
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Western Missouri 9-1-1 Dispatch Center Director, the Communications officer works with communications systems in different cities within Vernon County’s Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS Communications Center.
Representative Duties:

• Operates public safety equipment as assigned to receive incident reports, including emergency calls through 911, and simultaneously enters information into computer system.
• Operates and maintains computer-aided dispatch equipment as directed.
• Follows all departmental policy and reports.
• Maintains various records and reports, and enters all MULES entries and inquiries as needed.
• Performs the duties of Telecommunicator as needed.
• Performs routine testing and inspection of communications equipment as required and reports any malfunctions to supervisor and Director.
• Upon completion of training, operates and provides Emergency Medical Dispatch as needed.
• Maintains effective security measures and protection of confidential information.
• May be required to attend approved professional development opportunities.
• Performs related work as required by the Executive Director.
Requirements:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Must successfully complete a background check and drug screening
• Ability to use various computer software in a variety of situations
• Must be able to read and use maps
• Must be able to read and comprehend oral and written instructions, prepare and present clear and written reports
• Ability to work calmly and effectively in high stress situations
• Ability to present information in one-on-one situations to the public, other employees and supervisor(s)
Physical Demands:
• Performs bending and reaching necessary to obtain resource materials
• Employee is subject to sitting for long periods of time
• Must be able to use a keyboard, grip objects and wear communications headsets that may cover or fit within the canal of the ear
• Must be able to talk, hear and understand spoken communications originating simultaneously from both the headset and other sources in the communications room.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
Other Demands:

• Must be able to work 10-12 hour shifts
• Must have a flexible schedule; will be required to work days, nights or evenings as assigned
