Mound City Kansas man killed in Vernon County Crash

Around 5:28pm last night the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with assistance of the Vernon County Sheriffs Office responded to a one vehicle accident on Arnold Road around 6 miles NW of Metz, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 Chevrolet driven by 25 year old Lucas D. Owens of Mound City, Missouri struck a bridge railing and left the roadway before coming to rest in a creek bed.

Mr. Owens was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Deputy Corner Keith Ballantyne around 17:28 hours.

A passenger in the vehicle 24 year old Heather Holloway also of Mound City, Kansas sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was flown by Med Flight to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Garwood Wrecker Service of Nevada, Missouri.

This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 4th Fatality accident of 2016.
