Butler woman dies in Kansas double fatality accident

Shortly after 4 pm yesterday, two vehicles collided in rural Linn county killing two and injuring three, including an infant. 

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1993 Honda driven by 25 year old Ryan N. Boyd of Independence, Missouri failed to stop at a stop sign just north of Mound City, Kansas at the intersection of county roads 1095 and 1150 and struck a 2001 Ford driven by Johnny Mack Stephens, Jr, 38 of Butler.

A passenger in the Stephens vehicle, 33 year old Trista L. Vail of Butler died at the scene. Another passenger, two month old Keylynn Mack Stephens, along with Johnny Mack Stephens were transferred to Kansas City hospitals for treatment. The infant is expected to recover, while Stephens remains in critical condition.

A passenger of the Boyd vehicle, 18 year old Issiah Jamon Pendergrass of Gardner, Kansas also died at the scene. Driver Ryan Boyd was airlifted to Research Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. 

The accident remains under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
