R. L. Dunning

R. L. Dunning, 91, of Clinton, Missouri died Monday, May 22, 2017 at his home.

He was born September 2, 1925 in Brownington, Mo., the son of John Wilson Dunning and Eva Mae (Thompson) Dunning.

R. L. married Elizabeth Ann Campbell on February 4, 1944 in Olathe, Kansas. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2013.

R. L. was a Missouri licensed funeral director and co-owner of the Sickman & Dunning Funeral Home in Clinton for 29 years, retiring October 1, 1974. In 1976 he was elected State Representative of the Missouri House and served until 1990. R. L. proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Navy. He was a member of the Clinton Christian Church, Disciples of Christ; Masonic Lodge; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1894; American Legion Post; and the Eagles Lodge, all of Clinton.

Surviving are one son, Bob Dunning and wife Norma, Clinton, Mo.; two daughters, Sandra Parker and husband John, Springfield, Mo., and Mary Atchison, Clinton, Mo.; eight grandchildren, April Mann and husband Tony, Gretchen Miekley and husband Dwayne, Cindy Wirsig and husband Blaik, Angie Wishard and husband Brian, Christa Atchison, John W. Dunning, II, and husband Rob, Sarah Royal and husband Jason, and Bill Dunning and wife Angie; great-grandchildren, Ashten Parker, Madi Miekley, Weston Miekley, Bret Royal, Eva-Mae Royal, Noah Dunning, Jillian Dunning, Jacob Hughes, Nicholas Hughes, Lillian Dunning, Grantt Wirsig, Jake Wirsig, Gentry Wishard, and Briley Wishard.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Jennifer Hughes, and one sister, Shirley Ann Wareham.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Clinton Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Military services will be at the graveside under the direction of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1894, Clinton. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Honor Flight of the Ozarks or Crossroads Hospice, and these donations may be left in care of the funeral home.
