Butler man arrested after hiding from police under a pile of clothes

Daniel Chastain
On June 2, 2017 during his normal patrol routine, a Deputy observed a stolen truck that was parked in the driveway of a residence on Elm Street in Amsterdam, MO.

The truck had been stolen from Passaic, MO. Upon arrival of assisting Deputies and both K-9 Units they tried to make contact with the suspect who was located inside the house.

The suspect, identified as Daniel Chastain, would not come outside the residence. The homeowner gave Deputies consent to enter the house. K-9 Units located Chastain in a bedroom hiding under a pile of clothes. Chastain failed to comply with the Deputies order. After a short struggle, K-9 Units apprehended Chastain and he was taken into custody.

He was then transported to the Bates County Memorial Hospital to be treated for his wounds sustained from both of the K-9 Units. Chastain was then taken to the Bates County Jail where he is currently being held.

A female subject inside the residence was also taken to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and was questioned but was later released pending charges.

Daniel Chastain (DOB 10/21/1977) had a warrant out of Bates County for Failure to Appear on Non-Support. The bond on that warrant is $1000.00 cash only. He also had 3 warrants out of City of Butler for Failure to Appear on Property Damage, Flee to Elude and Driving while Suspended. The total bonds on the Butler warrants is $1037.50 cash or surety.

Chastain is currently facing charges for being in Possession of Stolen Property and could face more charges later.
