Marie came to Nevada at the age of seven. Due to the failing health of her mother she was adopted and raised by her aunt and uncle Clara and Bill Fessler. Marie attended Nevada High School and graduated with the Class of 1961. She became the first meter-maid in Nevada in 1973, a fact that she was very proud of. Marie later worked at Nevada State Hospital in Dietary for 10 years before retiring so she could care for her grandchildren.
She and Jerry enjoyed square dancing and was the past leader of Vernon County Square Dancing Club. Marie also enjoyed attending nearly all of her grandchildren’s school functions and sporting events.
Marie attended the 1st Baptist Church in Nevada. Other memberships included the Eagles Women’s Auxiliary, BPO #564 DOE, WAGS, BPW, Elks Widows Member, 1st Baptist Bible Study, and was a Red Cross Volunteer.
She is survived by two sons, Jeff Fleming and Tina Overton, Nevada, Bill Fleming and his wife Kim, Nevada; grandchildren, Justin Fleming, Springfield, MO, and Bailee Fleming, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Jerry.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Ferry Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
