Dorothy L. Winters, age 83, formerly of Nevada, MO passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Wes-Vue Nursing Facility in West Plains, MO, following several years of ill health. Dorothy was born August 13, 1933 in Bates County, MO to Clarence and Edna Mitts. She married John Rex Winters on March 23, 1949, in Nevada, MO and he preceded her in death in 2008.
Dorothy took pride in her role as a homemaker and always kept a neat and tidy home. She was known, too, as a wonderful cook, and many of her dishes, such as her homemade noodles, were loved by her family. Dorothy and John raised their children and made their home in Nevada, MO for many years, though she moved to West Plains a short time after John’s death. Through the years, Dorothy was a member at Bible Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Borders, of Nevada; her son, Rex Winters and his wife Cindy of Nevada; five grandchildren, Michele Leonard and her husband Todd, El Dorado Springs, Melissa Forester and her husband Rob, West Plains, MO, Maria Hoover and her husband Byron, Springfield, MO, Beth Reeves and her husband Everett, Nevada, MO, and John R. Winters, II, Nevada, MO; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Gene Mitts and his wife Sheila, Nevada, MO, and Fred Mitts and his wife Bonnie, California; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. In addition to her beloved husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and several siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO with Bro. Jerry Pyle officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home. Those who wish may contribute I her memory to the Arthritis Foundation in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.
