Rollin Hubert Motley, 90, of Appleton City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City, Missouri on November 18, 2017. He was born May 7, 1927 in rural St. Clair County, the youngest son of Merritt L. and Gertie M. (Page) Motley. Rollin spent his formative years helping his family farm in the Rockville area and attended Hoover rural school. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. During this time he met and married Wanda Baumgarden, on March 8, 1952, and to this union three children were born: Connie, Tom, Kimbra. Upon his honorable discharge from the service he began a career in livestock auctioneering.

This career in auctioneering was Rollin’s dream. He had a very successful auction business and also farmed and ranched. Coming from a musically talented family, who regularly played together, he brought this ability into his auction chant. Many remarked that when he called out his bids it sounded like music to the ear. He dearly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially attending his grandson Levi’s bull riding events.

Some of his favorite hobbies were playing pitch and dominos. Rollin was a life long Methodist, dedicating many hours to furthering the Gospel, and is finally reunited with his lord and savior. He will be deeply missed by his many family and friends.

Rollin is preceded in death by his parents, Merritt L. and Gertie M. (Page) Motley; his brother Raybourn Motley; all of his half brothers and sisters; and his daughter Kim.

He is survived by his daughter, Connie (Rick) Strope, son, Tom (Kimmie) Motley; grandchildren: Jeremy Strope and Kyla (Bryan) Inman, Laurie Motley, Kendra (Howie) Butler, Jessie (John) Willis, Levi (Aubri) Motley, and Paul (Emily) Rivers; 10 great-grandchildren; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
