Updated Obituary - James "Jim" Allen Worthley

James “Jim” Worthley, 77, Harrisonville, MO, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Harrisonville, MO with burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice House.

Jim was born February 13, 1941 in Harrisonville, MO, the son of Robert Clarence and Dorothy Emily (Karg) Worthley. He was a 1959 graduate of Harrisonville High School. Jim married Barbara Jean Boner on October 4, 1970 in Harrison, AR. He worked at Pitcher Automotive from 1959-1970 and owned and operated his own NAPA store from 1970-1990. He then worked in the parts department for Milner-Ford for 15 years before retiring. He loved working on cars and he especially loved Chevrolets! His prized possession was his 1962 Corvette that he completely restored.

Jim loved the Lake of the Ozarks. He and Barbara bought their lake house in 1976 and after he retired they spent their summers there. It was definitely his happy place. He loved to sit and watch the boats go by and visit with the neighbors. Hamm sandwiches were often consumed on the patio.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; four daughters, Kim Long (Mark), Teresa Fordyce (Tom), and Krista Lawson (Duane), all of Harrisonville, MO and Tammy Spainhour (Tony), Peculiar, MO; one son, Kevin Worthley (Kelly), Cleveland, MO; 6 grandchildren, Amanda Edwards (Brandon), Ciera Sears, Jacob Long (Nikki), Cassie Long, Haley Fordyce, Brody Lawson, and 2 great-grandchildren, Chloe Edwards and Jasper Edwards.
