Darrell Edward Hearting, 58, was born in Appleton City, Missouri June 15, 1960. He departed this life February 18, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Darrell grew up on the family farm near the City Lake. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing and trail riding in his younger days. After graduating from Appleton City High School in 1978 Darrell worked at many jobs. He had his own welding business, drove a gas truck for Estel “Moon” Davis, helped his dad farm and helped many friends and neighbors on their farms. Throughout the years he had trained many horses and stock dogs, holding training clinics for those who wished to participate. His favorite dog was Sharp, a border collie. In 1981 Darrell went to work for Kansas City Power & Light as a welder retiring in 2018 after 36 1/2 years of service. He was a CSA qualified welder, working on high pressure pipes. His KCP&L welding “family” referred to him as “Doc”.

In July 1990, Darrell and Susan Lorraine Hines were united in marriage. They made their home on the home place where Darrell had grown up, raising Seth, Jamie and Marty.

Darrell was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he and Susan were members of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class even before their marriage. He was a member of the church trustees and had been the president and member of the board. Darrell and Susan team taught the older youth Sunday school class for many years as well.

Recently, Darrell, out of obligation, helped Susan and good friends Mick and Susan Hellwig in a venture called “Vintage View by Sue”, a rustic wedding and event rental business, which he complained about regularly. He spent many weekends “loading up all that junk” for their “rustic” creations. They also spent many hours decorating the church fellowship hall and sanctuary for holidays and events.

Darrell always worked hard, but he was also a man who loved a good story and was ever ready for a practical joke. The twinkle in his eye and sly smile was a ready tell there was mischief afoot.

Darrell was always helping someone. If he saw a need, he was there, lending a hand in his friendly, gentle way. He was never too busy and always had a smile and a kind word. He was the good and faithful servant.

Preceding Darrell in death was his father, Walter. Survivors include his wife, Susan of the home; three children: Seth Hearting, Jamie Bokern and husband Brian, and Marty Hearting; his mother, Joyce Herndon; his grandchildren: Amber, Bailey and Cole Bokern, Eli and Gracie Hearting, Graceleigh Green, Harlee and Ava Hearting; his Siblings: Darwin Hearting and wife Jane, Delma Hearting and Delores Bracher and husband Steve; many nieces, nephew and friends.
