She was born on October 4, 1944, to Herbert Russell and Carol Christine (Culley). Nona was a Nurse at Bates County Memorial Hospital for 42 years; she loved caring for her patients and the many friendships she made along the way. Nona was a loving sister and took her role of oldest child seriously, she has been credited with keeping both Kent and Jeanie out of ‘a lot of trouble’ their whole lives. She was a wonderful aunt to her 7 nieces and nephews, and they will miss her Christmas peanut brittle and jello fluff salads.
Early in life, she enjoyed playing softball with the Hospital Honey’s, traveling, reading, and antiquing. She was an avid volunteer and enjoyed supporting the Adrian Community, Nona volunteered at the Adrian Library, Meals on Wheels, Adrian Area Historical Society, Western Tractor Association, and helped with many community events. Nona’s constant companions were her beloved pets and she enjoyed taking them for walks and golf cart rides, training them as pet volunteers for hospitals and nursing homes, and reading with them at the library.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Charles W. “Charlie” Hooker, her mother and father, her sister-in-law Janelle Wisdom, and her niece Marcelle.
Nona is survived by her brother Kent Wisdom and sister Marla Jean Cooper, 2 nephews Jeff and Eddie, and 4 nieces, Christine, Vernell, Heather, and Grace, and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
