UPDATE: Structure Fire East of Butler

Structure Fire turns out to be a vehicle fire:

Upon arrival to the scene on East 52 and County Road 8305 the fire was determined to not be a structure fire but a vehicle fire. 



The Butler Fire Department along with Bates County Sheriff's deputies are on scene and working on getting this fire under control. 

All of the other fire units that were responding have been cancelled and they are returning to quarters. Bates County Live will update this when a press release is made available to us by The Butler Fire Department.

Structure Fire East of Butler

The Butler Fire Department along with The Adrian Fire Department and Appleton City Fire Department  and Bates County EMS is in route to a possible house fire. 

The location of this fire is 8 miles East of Butler on 52 East Highway then back South on County Road 8305 a half of a mile. The intial report is a farm house and the grass around it is on fire. Bates County Live will update this when more information becomes available.

Order Number 11 Plaque Dedicated This Saturday

Order Number 11 memorial plaque which is a 24"x30" bronze marker that will be dedicated this Saturday, March 22nd at 2pm at the Bates County Courthouse. 

Several Speakers from all 4 counties impacted by Order No. 11 will join in this dedication. Everyone is welcome to Come be a part of history as we commemorate the history of our past!

Missouri Sounds: Folk Songs For Missouri at Bates County Museum

Hank Roberts will premiere his new Civil War era CD this coming Saturday, March 22nd, at 10 am in Robertson Hall at the Bates County Museum. Also Authors Tom Rafiner and husband-wife team Aaron Barnhart & Diane Eickhoff will also join us at 2pm, we'll gather at the Bates County Courthouse for the Order No. 11 marker dedication!

Large Grass Fire West Of Adrian

The Adrian Fire Department with mutual aid assistance from the Butler Fire Department and Bates County Sheriff's Office are all on scene of a large grass fire. The location of this grass fire is 2 miles West of Adrian on 18 Highway. Traffic is very slow in this area please be on the look out for Emergency vehicles. Bates County Live will update this when more information becomes available.

Obituary - Carolyn (Callaway) Register

Carolyn (Callaway) Register, 69, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.  A complete obituary will be posted when available.

Job Opening In Butler

Napa Auto Parts Store in Butler Missouri currently has a full time position available. Would prefer someone with parts or automotive knowledge but we are willing to train the right person. Anyone interested can fill out an application at our location 4 N. Orange Street in Butler.

Adrian Optimist Club Receives $2,500

Bates County farmer Carl Martens has directed a $2,500 donation to the Adrian Optimist Club. Funded by America’s Farmers Grow Communities, the donation will help the club install first aid kits in all classrooms in the Adrian R-III School District.

Thanks to the support of farmers across the country, more than $3.2 million is being directed to nonprofits in 1,289 counties in 39 states.

“We are grateful for donations like this one that help us give back and better our community,” said Troy Englehardt, president of the club.

America’s Farmers Grow Communities works directly with farmers to support nonprofit organizations like the Adrian Optimist Club, who are doing important work in their communities. The program offers farmers the chance to win $2,500, which is then donated to the farmer’s nonprofit of choice. The search for funding to sustain and enhance programs is a year-round job for nonprofit organizations across the country. Through America’s Farmers Grow Communities, farmers have been able to support a variety of groups, such as schools, fire departments, community centers and youth organizations like 4-H and FFA.

America’s Farmers Grow Communities launched in 2010, and has since donated over $16 million to more than 6,500 nonprofit organizations across the country. America’s Farmers Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, is part of the America’s Farmers initiative, which highlights and celebrates the important contributions of farmers like Carl Martens.

Weather Update: Spring - Like Temps Tomorrow

Slightly chillier conditions are expected today, then spring weather will return just in time for the Spring equinox on Thursday! However, these warm temperatures will be short-lived, with much cooler temperatures expected for the weekend and much of next week.

Butler Police Department: Wanted Subject Flees On Foot

On 3-18-14 The Butler Police Department responded to a call of a fight in progress. The location of this fight was 611 North Main Street here in Butler. 


Upon arrival to the scene the officers was advised that one of the subjects involved in the fight had fled the area on foot. 


The person who was later identified as Amanda Leigh Jackson, 32 who was wanted on St. Clair County Warrants.

She was caught shortly after by Bates County Sheriff K-9 and Butler Police Officers, the suspect was arrested and she was transported to the Bates County Jail.

Power Outage This Morning

Due to a downed powerline near 4th and Sycamore Street, much of Pleasanton, Kansas is without power this morning. No timeline has been given for restoration of power. KCP&L crews are currently working to fix the problem.

Butler Police Department: Youth Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign

The Butler Police Department has received a grant from The Highway Safety Office.  The grant is for the Youth Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign.  Under the Graduated Drivers License law teens are required to wear their seatbelt.  The Butler Police will be conducting a Seatbelt/Drivers license check point during the week of March 24-28 2014 in the area of the High School.

Marijuana Grow Operation in Rural Adrian




On 3/18/14, members of the CNET Drug Taskforce and the Bates County Sheriff’s Office converged on a residence in rural Adrian Missouri on county road 4501.  The narcotics officers were following up on a tip in reference to marijuana grow operation at the residence. 

Narcotics officers made contact with one of the owners at the residence.  At the residence the officers located two locations within the house used for the grown operation.  The first location was a second story bedroom, which was being used as a room to start the grow process.  Once the plants reached a certain maturity level then the plants were moved to a location inside the basement where they were placed under larger grow lamps that were run on timers. 

Approximately 41 marijuana plants were seized, just under 1 pound of processed marijuana and 9 guns.   The grow operation was dismantled and transported to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office


The case will be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for review of charges.
