Bates County Sheriffs Office: Appleton City men arrested on Tampering

Jeffrey S. Wright
On May 9, 2015, Deputies from the Bates County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence on State Route W in Appleton City in reference to a theft that had occurred earlier. Upon their arrival, Deputies met with the property owner who stated that there were two 5 horse power motors stolen from the barn. The motors are described as being Baldor motors that are gray in color and are valued at $500.00 each. The home owner suspected his tenants had stolen the motors because the tenant had been in the barn on several different occasions. When the Deputies entered the barn, they noticed a newer model Chevy Camaro sitting on blocks. The bumpers, wheels, tires and a door had been taken off of the Camaro. The interior seats were also missing from the vehicle. The Deputy located a VIN on the vehicle and had dispatch run a check through MULES. The vehicle came back stolen out of Overland Park, KS. The home owner believed the vehicle to be owned by the tenants since he had seen them working on the car on multiple occasions.
