Circuit Court of Bates County warns of telephone scam

Circuit Court Officials have been notified that area citizens are receiving calls from a person or persons identifying themselves as sheriff’s department personnel. The caller claims that a warrant exists for the arrest of the citizen due to the citizen’s failure to appear for Jury Duty. The caller then instructs the citizen to purchase a money card and call them back with that information on that card to pay for their bond. Be advised that no such warrants have been issued by any Court in the 27th Circuit.

Please contact law enforcement officers if you have received any telephone requests to send money in any form for alleged bonds. Any questions regarding jury duty should be directed to the circuit clerk’s office.

James K. Journey, Presiding Judge of the 27th Circuit Court
