On Jan. 1, Dillon Bennett, 32, and Lauren Crawford, 28, both from El Dorado Springs, were arrested on St. Clair County warrants charging them each with class C felony burglary second degree and class D felony property damage first degree. Bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety in each case.

The charges stem from an incident the day before when St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to a residence on SW 101 Road in reference to a stealing in progress. The property is owned by David Lile and the residence was recently destroyed by fire.

Deputies arrived on scene and located Bennett and Crawford sitting in a truck filled with metal scrap items taken from the structure. The investigation revealed the individuals did not have permission to be on the property.

The owner arrived on scene and identified the items and advised a metal outbuilding that was not damaged by the fire was also missing from the property.

He noted the metal in the back of the truck was from the missing building. Items that were inside the building were found beside the truck.

Damage to the building was estimated at $1,500 and the value of the items taken was estimated at $1,000.
