Update: Mechanical problems cause semi truck fire in Walmart Parking lot

On Wednesday, April 27 at approximately 5:10 A.M., the Butler Fire Department responded to the parking lot of

Wal-Mart, 400 S. Fran, for a report of a tractor-trailer unit on fire.

On arrival, heavy fire involvement was found in the tractor portion of the unit, located on the northeast corner of the parking lot.. The driver was out of the vehicle on our arrival.

The fire was extinguished with heavy fire damage. The trailer was loaded with plastic products. There was no extension of the fire to the trailer.

The fire was under control at approximately 5:26 A.M., with the last unit leaving the scene at approximately 6:23 A.M..

Cause of the fire appears to have been from a mechanical problem. The driver in the sleeper and stated he heard a popping noise, which woke him up, and upon investigation found fire in the engine compartment.

There were no injuries.
