Update: Belton man charged with assault on Law Enforcement Officer after Benton County standoff

On the afternoon of July 11, 2016, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a check the well being of an individual in Southwestern Benton County. 

Benton County Deputies arrived assisted by members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. 

Authorities had been advised that the subject had a firearm in the residence and took precautionary measures upon arrival. 

Contact was made by phone at which time the subject made threats of shooting officers if they approached the residence. 

Approximately three hours into the standoff, the subject fired at law enforcement through a sliding glass door. Less than an hour later, the subject surrendered without incident.” 
 
Robert Lee Foss of Belton was arrested and charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Armed Criminal Action. He is being held on $100,000 bond.
