Betcha didn't know: A cricket makes a good thermometer?

We thought we'd take a moment away from all the hubub of news to bring you a really cool fact from the Farmer's Almanac:

Did you know a cricket is a very accurate thermometer?

As the temperature rises, a cricket's metabolism increases, allowing the process that triggers chirps to happen more frequently.

To get the exact temperature in Fahrenheit, count the number of chirps in 14 seconds; add 40 to that number to determine the current temperature.
