Cute, fuzzy things that make you sick...

Social media has come alive over the last few weeks with concerns about an unassuming, friendly looking caterpillar that can complicate your life.

Officially known as the White Hickory Tussock Moth Caterpillar, you might be inclined to pick it up because it's so durned cute. But don't.

Glands in the caterpillar can leave you with a burning rash much like poison ivy that last for days and may require medical treatment.

Some good news? This little guy is not native to the midwest- their primary home is in Canada and the upper eastern seaboard. There have been no reported sightings (yet) in our area.

By chance, if you see one, don't touch- and contact our local Extension office or the Missouri Conservation Department.
