Update: Arrest made after kidnapping in Rich Hill

On December the 1st at approximately 0600 hours the Bates County Sheriff’s Office, and Rich Hill Police Department responded to a report of a Kidnapping at Pumpin Petes gas station. Dispatched advised officers that the adult female victim was hiding in the gas station bathroom.

The victim stated that the suspect was located in a white colored Ford F-250 with a broken back window. The victim stated that the adult male subject was armed and dangerous. The suspect and truck was located on the northwest side of the parking lot.


Due to the nature of the call the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team was activated and responded to the scene. The suspect was sitting in the truck with it running. The Bates County Sheriff’s Office blocked the suspect’s vehicle in through the use of placing a vehicle in the front and back while SERT surrounded the truck and commanded the suspect to exit the vehicle. The suspect refused to comply.

The driver side window was broken out to gain control of the suspect and remove him from the truck. The suspect was then arrested, placed in handcuffs and transport to the Bates County Jail.

Items located inside the truck was ½ oz of methamphetamine, 22 caliber Beretta rifle and a sawed off shot gun and a high point hand gun. The truck was stolen out of Joplin. 

The suspect was identified as Allen Dean Wasburn DOB 02-26-1981 of Kansas City, Mo. He was charged with Possession of Controlled substance; Methamphetamine a class C felony. 
Tampering with motor vehicle- 1st Degree class C felony. Unlawful use of drug paraphernalia a class A misdemeanor. Bond was set at $25,000.00 cash only
