Hume Community News 6/6/17

The community of Hume wishes to express their sympathy to the family of Leon Hester who passed away on May 8. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kathy and all of his family.

We also wish to extend our sympathy to the family of Jerry Isaacson. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Both of these men will be greatly missed by their family and friends.

The Cub Scout Pack 73 held their Bridging out Ceremony at the First Baptist Church in Rich Hill on May 24th. Boys advancing from Wolves to Bears were: Wyatt Swarens, Thomas Davenport, Chance Poulter, Cooper Fox, Jaritt Fry, Raed Rebman and Ryan Reed. The boys advancing from Weblos to Arrow Light were Nolan Mubanga and Braden Coonce. Starting as a Weblo was Nicholas Coker. These boys do amazing work. Adam Swarens is the den leader.

Approximately 120 attended the Hume Alumni held on May 27 at the Larry L. Berry Gym at the Hume School. Emcee’s Heather Rogers and Bill Hawks did a great job. Carrie Irwin gave the welcome to the 2017 Seniors with Michala Lantsberger giving the response. Wilda Sears had the initiation for the Senior Class of 2017. Cliff Yarick ask the blessing upon the meal. A delicious meal was served by Sister’s and Friends Café of Hume. The date for next year’s Alumni will be Saturday, May 26 at 6:00 p.m. In the past it has been at 7:00 p.m. but we have voted to change the time to 6:00 p.m. Please make note of this change for next year.

A retirement reception was held on Sunday, June 4th for Mr. Kirk Hart as the Hume High School. Mr. Hart had an awesome impact on all the students he came in contact with. He will be greatly missed at Hume but assured everyone he would be back to sub. Mr. Hart was presented a plaque by Superintendent Scott Morrison.

The O5O Club held the noon carry in dinner on Monday, June 5 with lots of delicious food. It is always wonderful to be able to gather together for food and fellowship. The next carry –in dinner will be held on June 19 at the Hume Community Center.

This weekend coming up is our annual Hume city wide garage sale and city wide clean up. There will be a dumpster placed up town, but please be sure to check with city hall on what can be dumped in there as there are a few things that they can not take.

The Fair Board held a work day last Saturday. They began replacing seats on the existing bleachers and replacing the fence destroyed by the tornado. Fair dates this year are August 1 through August 5. We are looking for Rodeo Queen Candidates ages 13 and up and Prince and Princess Candidates ages 5 to 12 years of age. If interested contact any fair board member. My apologies that I haven’t had any news in the last couple of weeks, if anyone has any news items they would like to share please let me know.
