Geraldine Kay Sivils Ghere was born December 11, 1934 to Jack Oliver and Zelma Evalyn Weddle Sivils in Vernon County, Missouri. She attended elementary school in Rich Hill, Missouri. Later, the family moved to Butler, where she would graduate from Butler High School. Gerry attended Central Missouri State University where she earned her teaching certificate. Afterwards, she taught in rural schools for five years. In 1953 she was united in marriage to Donald “Oakie” Ghere.

To this union two children were born, a son Jayce in 1958 and daughter Jacqueline in 1962. In 1958 Gerry started bookkeeping for her parents’ business, Sivils Sale Co. She continued that job well after she and her husband Oakie took over the business and began Don Ghere Sales Co. From that day on Gerry would work very hard alongside her husband, having sales every weekend and quite often, many throughout the week. No family events were scheduled on Saturday or Sunday as they were reserved for sales and work.

In 2008 they decided it was time to close Don Ghere Sales Co. For many years Gerry would miss the auction life, the people and even the work. She enjoyed it all so much. While running the sale company, in 1970 the two of them opened Ghere Realty and continued that business until Oakie’s passing in 2015.

Gerry was a proud and faithful member of the Butler First Christian Church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, cooking and serving funeral dinners, and serving Old Settlers Day Dinners until very recently. Gerry’s love of cooking was evident through her devotion to the church. She also loved to garden, can, and sew. Often making beautiful quilts.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald “Oakie” Ghere and a sister Dixie Sivils Wolf. She is survived by her son Jayce D. Ghere and wife Annie of Butler, MO., daughter Jacqueline K. Ghere Como and husband Michael of Leawood, KS., grandchildren, Kristin Ghere of Wichita, KS., Alexandra Como of Leawood, KS., Matthew Tindell and wife Jackie of Springfield, MO., Crechelle Swickhamer Robertson and husband Cody of Adrian, MO., and Zane Swickhamer of Butler, MO., and great-grandchildren, Alex Tindell of Springfield, MO., and Brielee Robertson of Adrian, MO.
