22 years ago today, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office lost a Deputy in the line of Duty. We would like to take a moment to thank him and his family for their ultimate sacrifice in protecting the citizens of Cass County.
On Tuesday, June 13, 1995 Deputy Sheriff Kevin Mayse succumbed to injuries sustained in a vehicle crash during a pursuit four days earlier.
His patrol car struck a tree on West 172nd Street, west of Holmes Road, during the pursuit.

The driver he was pursuing was charged with manslaughter but convicted only of leaving the scene of an accident.
Deputy Mayse had served with the Cass County Sheriff's Office for three years. He was survived by his expectant wife, two daughters, and son.
