Update: From the Bates County Sheriff's Office

On 8/15/18 a deputy with the Bates County Sheriffs Office attempted to stop a red Pontiac firebird for dispalying plates of another vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop for the deputy and exited off 49 at Passaic. The pursuit traveled westbound on F Hwy to county road 5001.

During the pursuit speeds exceeded 130 mph. The driver jumped out of the vehicle on a gravel road and ran into the tree line next to the road. The vehicle, still occupied by the passenger and the driver’s 2 year old daughter, continued to roll down the road until it came to rest partially in the ditch.

The female was taken into custody for outstanding warrants. The juvenile was taken to the Sheriff’s Office where she was released to her grandmother. The driver was identified as Michael I Runions of Independence Missouri who had multiple warrants with a caution indicator stating he was known to be armed and dangerous.

Sheriff Anderson says “its extremely disturbing that this gentleman placed the general public and his own 2 year old daughter in so much danger to keep from being arrested for his warrants in which he could could have simply bonded out on.”
