Miami FCCLA‏


 Miami FCCLA participated in the 2013 STAR Events Competition on February 6th, at the University of Central Missouri. STAR Events stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition. Students choose from a variety of categories to create a project from. Miami took 9 competitors in 7 events. 5 of those 9 will be moving on and representing Region 12 at the 2013 State Leadership Conference held in Columbia, Missouri. We are proud of all participants and wish good luck to those moving on to State!
Caitlin Slattery and Jocelyn Cook participated in the Promote and Publicize category. Through their project, they were able to increase their club affiliation by 45%. They also hosted numerous community activities, such as a volleyball tournament and community 5K, to increase community knowledge of FCCLA. Caitlin and Jocelyn received gold medals and will be advancing to State.

 Shelley Kaufman partook in the National Programs in Action category. She collected 526 books, 60 drawstring bags, numerous items to fill the bags, as well as monetary support. Shelley donated these items to Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City. She earned a gold medal and will be progressing to State.
Kara Goddard took part in the Chapter Service Project Display category. Kara collected 622 hygiene products and clothing items. She donated them to the Sheffield House, a homeless shelter for women with disabilities and their children. Kara received a gold medal and will be moving on to state

Jaclyn Crawford participated in the Recycle and Redesign category. She created her own design to create wallets and change pockets out of shopping bags. Jaclyn earned a gold medal and will be proceeding to State.

 Kaylee Ewbank partook in the Entrepreneurship category. She created an intricate business plan for a t-shirt company called Kaylee’s Kloset. Kaylee received a silver medal.
Lee’A Hoss took part in the Fashion Construction category. She sewed a floor-length prom dress. She earned a silver medal. Ruth Taylor and Kristen Cook participated in the Environmental Ambassador category. They instituted a plastic and aluminum recycling program in our school. They received bronze medals. Congratulations to all our participants and Good Luck at state!
