Deputy Curl observed the driver of the Taurus fail to stop at a stop sign and signaled to the driver to stop, with his patrol vehicle’s lights and sirens. The driver failed to stop, leading Deputies on a vehicle pursuit through the northeast area of Henry County and the southeast area of Johnson County.
At one point during the pursuit the driver came to a stop at the intersection of NE 401 Rd and NE 2 Hwy and Deputy Curl exited his patrol vehicle in an attempt to apprehend the driver. As Deputy Curl was running up to the vehicle the driver accelerated towards him while he was still on foot, leaving Deputy Curl no choice but to jump out of the way.
As the pursuit went on, a Trooper from the MSHP deployed a tire deflation device successfully striking the fleeing Taurus, and ultimately leading to the conclusion of the pursuit.
The pursuit ended in the 800 block of NE Y Hwy at 8:58 a.m., when Deputy Curl and Deputy Romi apprehended the driver, Ronald Finks, age 71 of Windsor.
Finks was charged with 1st Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Valid License, and many other traffic violations; including operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.
Finks is currently being held at the Henry County Detention Center.
