H marks the spot at BCMH
Troy Trumbore, RN, Emergency Department Supervisor, and Russ Whisenand, Ambulance Supervisor, put a fresh coat of paint on the helipad for air ambulance service at BCMH.
Emergency services at BCMH have seen a dramatic reduction in patients in the past month, Troy said.
Emergency services at BCMH have seen a dramatic reduction in patients in the past month, Troy said.
Because of stay-at-home measures and fear of catching COVID-19, people may be hesitant to visit the doctor’s office, an urgent care clinic or the emergency room. It’s important to know that you can safely seek medical care and protect yourself.
Because hospitals are isolating COVID-19 patients from other patients, and have rigorous screening procedures and strict visitor policies in place, the risk of contracting the virus in the hospital is low.
BCMH is prepared, safe and ready to care.

Obituary - Lorenza Lisa VanWinkle
Lorenza, (Lisa) Van Winkle at age 73 of Clinton, MO. passed away quietly and whisked into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday April 29, 2020 with her family and Pastor at her bedside at the St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. Lisa was born July 28, 1947 in the Philippines and departed this life April 29, 2020. Rob and Lisa had celebrated 53 years of marriage on March 22, 2020.
Lisa loved the LORD, enjoyed cooking, and planning the Good Hope Baptist Church dinners. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, planting flowers and taking care of them. Her flower beds testify of her love for flowers and the beauty they held. Lisa was willing to put people first by serving them and her family. Lisa will always be remembered for her cooking skills and her service to Jesus in preparing meals for kids on Wednesday evenings. She would not just throw a snack together, but a full meal. She loved hymns and it would not be uncommon for her to raise her hand in praise to her Savior Jesus Christ. She will be remembered for coordinating the Sunday after church fellowship meals we would have and if too much time went by she would make sure that a meal got scheduled. She will always be remembered for loving to watch football and her two favorite teams were the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs. She will be remembered for her service to her church family and it will be impossible to replace her. Lisa knew this life was just a coffee break and she was just passing through as her real home was in heaven with Jesus her Savior.
Survivors include her husband Erving, (Rob) of the home; her sons David Van Winkle of Kansas City and Jayden Van Winkle of the home, her daughters Donna Hembree of Clinton, MO. and Diana Van Winkle of Bella Vista, Ark. Lisa was a loving and caring grandmother to Jonah, Tyler, and Joseph. Lisa was also great-grandmother to Vincent and Velanna.
Lisa was preceded in death by her son Dustin Van Winkle.
Lisa was also a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church of Clinton, MO.
A quiet graveside service will be held for the family where Lisa’s body will be laid to rest at the Good Hope Cemetery, Clinton, MO at 11:30 AM Saturday, May 2nd, 2020.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Good Hope Baptist Church at 806 SE Hwy. 7, Clinton, MO. 64735 or left with Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, MO.

BCMH Plans for Reopening
As the COVID-19 stay-home order comes to an end for Missouri residents at 11:59 p.m. on May 3, 2020, leadership at Bates County Memorial Hospital announces the first stage of their plan for reopening services. The initial phase of reopening includes more in-clinic visits for outpatient specialties at the hospital and allowing for well-child exams on Monday mornings at Nursery Street Family Care Clinic.
During this transition period, plans are tentative and subject to last-minute changes.
Outpatient Specialty Clinics: Starting May 4th, in-patient clinic visits will be available for five of our outpatient specialty clinics: oncology, endocrinology, cardiology, urology, and pain management. Additional measures, listed below, will be taken to separate patients by physical means as well as appointment timing to promote patient and staff safety; as a result, appointments may be somewhat limited during this phase. Telehealth video visits and phone consults will continue to be an option for some patients.
In-clinic outpatient specialty visits include the following safety measures:
- Only one specialty clinic will be held per day per clinic space (first floor and second floor).
- Patients will be registered by phone before they arrive at the clinic.
- Patients are asked to arrive at the clinic no more than five minutes before their scheduled appointment.
- Seating has been arranged to provide the recommended physical distance between patients.
- Appointments are being scheduled 30 minutes apart to reduce the number of patients in the waiting area.
- At this time, patients may be asked not to bring visitors to their appointment, unless the patient needs special assistance.
Family Care Clinics: Starting Monday, May 4th, appointments will be available for immunizations, well-baby /child checks, and physicals at the Nursery Street clinic. Taking advantage of weekend deep cleaning of clinics, these well-visit appointments will be scheduled Mondays between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. for children up to 17 years. Telehealth services will remain available. Adrian and Rich Hill clinics will remain closed until further notice, and High Street continues to serve as our clinic for patients with respiratory symptoms.
BCMH will continue safety measures to protect the safety of our patients, staff and community at the hospital and clinics. This includes a no-visitor policy (with some exceptions), screening at the hospital entrance and clinic registration, and requiring all who enter to wear a mask.
Additional re-opening plans will be reported at a later time. Follow us on Facebook to stay current with our latest news.
From the City of Butler
The Butler City Hall lobby will remain closed after the stay at home order has been lifted on May 4th.
The Butler City Council will make a decision on May 5th during the City Council meeting about when the lobby will open to the public again. We appreciate everyone's understanding during this crises.

Obituary - Patricia Gover
Patricia Gover, of Lowry City, Missouri, passed away Monday, April 27th, 2020 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.
Patricia “Patty” Ruth (Childs) Gover age 61 of Lowry City, MO, passed away on Monday April 27th, 2020 at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. She lived very much in the light and love of her family and her faith. Although she has passed from this world, her loving memory and her legacy will endure, blessing her family and friends.
Patty loved nature and the outdoors. Going fishing, and hunting for mushrooms being some of her favorite outdoor activities. She loved and nurtured flowers and her garden. She enjoyed cooking large meals and to prepare her family and friend’s favorite foods for them. Some of her most acclaimed dishes were fried chicken, homemade rolls, chicken and noodles, strawberry cake, deviled eggs, Watergate Salad, and John’s favorite, pot roast. Patty was known for tremendously elaborate birthday cakes for her children and grandson. She always looked forward to holidays and cherished decorating and celebrating them, especially Easter, Halloween, and the Fourth of July. As a mom and grandma her Easter baskets were legendary. Her son’s receiving them into their early thirties and her grandson receiving this year’s in the mail just this year, not even Covid-19 would not stop her. Viewing the Fourth of July fireworks was her personal favorite holiday activity and she looked forward to it months in advance.
