Updated Obituary - Diana Phelan
Diana Lynn Phelan was born December 16, 1956 in Kansas City, Missouri to Walter “Tony” and Rosemary Perry Taylor.
Diana was a proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin to so many.
Diana enjoyed several things in life, including, being with her family whenever she could and cooking for them as well, especially on Thanksgiving. The family always looked forward to what faces she would create with veggies on her deviled eggs. She loved staying up all night on Christmas Eve to decorate presents, and to watch as her wacky designs brought smiles on Christmas morning. Diana also enjoyed her job. She worked for many years at the Flaming Lantern restaurant in Butler and loved serving the community and joking with her co-workers and customers.
Occasionally she would make trips to the casinos to play slot machines, she always knew someday she would “hit big” on them. She also loved thrift store shopping, listening to oldies music like they were new releases, and watching movies.
Diana loved her family very, very much, including her parents, little brothers, six children, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, big sister, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Although she had not seen her cousins in many years, she spoke of the fond memories with them. She was loved by many and will forever be missed.

She is survived by her sister Pam Herndon and husband Richard, brother Craig Taylor and wife Glynda, five sons, Ben Phelan and Lesley, their children Elizabeth and Madeline, Paul Phelan and wife Melissa and daughters Tori and Halia, Tony Phelan and his sons Skyler and Aiden, Danny Phelan and his daughter Jennifer and boyfriend Martin, Joey Phelan and his children Alex and Alaina, one daughter Niki Phelan and her children Tyler and Layla, great-grandchildren Liam and Lillie, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Each year, the Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Center (HARC) and University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry (UMCA) host the family-friendly and educational Missouri Chestnut Roast event. This year is going to look a little bit different. Instead of offering an in-person event at the Research Center, located in New Franklin, Mo., HARC and UMCA will go virtual this year, along with the rest of the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) Agricultural Research Centers during the annual field day season. The HARC Virtual Chestnut Roast will be held Saturday, October 3, with numerous unique videos available through the Research Center’s website and Facebook page.
The
videos will include informative content on the production of pecan, chestnut
and elderberry, from start to finish. While you won’t be able to smell the
aroma or taste the flavor of roasted chestnuts, you will be treated to new
behind-the-scenes footage and video tours of HARC that will immerse you in a
true Missouri agroforestry landscape. The event promises to be inspiring for
audiences near and far. The Virtual Chestnut Roast will include a keynote video
given by Curtis Stone, known as “The Urban Farmer” from Canada, who, according
to his website, has an area of expertise in quick-growing, high-value annual
vegetables for direct consumer market streams.
Individuals can find the presentations beginning around 8:30 a.m. on
Saturday, October 3, on the Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Center
Facebook page (facebook.com/mizzouharc/). Presentations will be posted
throughout the morning. The videos will also be posted on a special webpage
(harc.missouri.edu/chestnut-roast/) on the HARC website. Attendees are welcome
to visit the Center for Agroforestry Facebook page
(facebook.com/centerforagroforestry) and the Mizzou Agroforestry YouTube
channel (youtube.com/channel/UCUOh8LRAf21gW2dt3uPf_UA) for the videos and
additional resources as well.

As the
General Election rapidly approaches, questions linger about the best, safest
and most effective way to vote on November 3. Absentee voting is now open for
eligible voters at the Henry County Clerk’s office (1st Floor of the Courthouse).
In Missouri, mail-in ballots and some absentee ballots must be notarized. In
October, The Democrat Club will host 2 Free Saturday Drive-up Notary Events for
all voters who have received their mail-in ballot or an absentee ballot that
requires a notarized signature. The deadline to register to vote – on-line or
in-person - is Wednesday, October 7, 2020. County residents can register to
vote at the Henry County Clerk’s office (Courthouse – First Floor) during
regular office hours. Registering on-line requires access to a (computer)
tablet, mobile device, or other touchscreen device to electronically sign the
registration form. “Mail-In Ballots” can
only be mailed to the local election authority (County Clerk) and must be
received by 7:00 pm, Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
Votes that are not received by that time will not be counted. The Free Mail-in Ballot Notary Events will be
on the East Side of the Clinton Square outside the Switzer Law Office (136 S.
Main, Clinton) Saturday, October 3 and 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Voters
can choose to bring their mail-in ballot into the law office to be notarized
but will also be greeted outside and can have their ballot notarized in their
car. Voters must bring state or
federally-issued legal photo identification (such as a driver’s license or
identification card). Face coverings are requested to ensure safety for the
voters and the notaries. After the mail-in ballot is notarized, the voter
should immediately deliver the ballot to the U.S. Post Office around the corner
to ensure vote safety and ensure that the ballot arrives in time to be counted.
Once the vote is submitted by absentee or a mail-in ballot, it is illegal for
the voter to vote again in-person at the polls. If you have any questions about
the mail-in ballot process, please contact the Henry County Clerk (660)
885-7204 or the Missouri Secretary of State at (573)751-4936.
