Joel Richard James Alvis, age 14 of Butler, Missouri died Friday, March 11, 2022 in Butler. He was born April 30, 2007 in Clinton, Missouri and adopted by Betty Alvis with the Gotcha Date being March 19, 2010.

Joel was a freshman student at Butler High School with his favorite subject being weights. He was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church as well as the youth ministry and helping in the nursery. Joel was also active in scouting and held the Rank of Second Class in Boy Scouts of America.

Joel was ornery but had a contagious smile. He was creative, making him a great storyteller. In addition, he was inventive and imaginative and was always experimenting. He enjoyed music of all genres and kindly accepted his mother's choices of Donny Osmond and Frank Sinatra. He possessed an appreciation of nature and being outside. Joel was family oriented and had a love of animals, especially his dogs Behr and Button. Neighbors enjoyed seeing him play with children in the neighborhood. Perhaps Joel's strongest attribute was his focus on his mother's needs and wants.

Joel is survived by his mother, Betty Alvis of Butler, Missouri; his maternal grandmother, Barbara Sisco of Kansas City, Missouri; his uncle, Larry Alvis and wife Deb of Independence, Missouri; and several cousins including John Foster and wife Jean of St. Joseph, Missouri and cousins Marissa Foster, Tim Alvis, and Jeff Alvis and wife Whitni.
