From the City of Harrisonville

WEATHER: Harrisonville received over 2.7 inches of rain this morning, and we’ve got more on the way.

Due to the rain earlier in the day, the ground is currently oversaturated and will struggle to contain tonight’s rain.

We have already seen roads close and have heard reports of basements flooding.

Please prepare accordingly for more heavy rains and potential flash flooding. Have multiple ways to receive emergency weather alerts and make sure your family has a plan in the event of an emergency.

Amoret man arrested after police pursuit in Bates County

On May 28, 2022 at approximately 2300hrs, a Deputy on patrol in Amsterdam attempted to stop a motorcycle for not having a rear taillight and failing to use his signal.  The motorcycle was occupied by two people.

The motorcycle slowed down and came to a stop in front of the Amsterdam Bar.  The female passenger exited the bike and the driver flipped the Deputy off and took off.

The Deputy gave pursuit out into the county.  During the pursuit the male subject threw multiple items from the bike.  The pursuit passed Camp Keirsey and entered onto gravel.  The pursuit then traveled northbound onto a gravel road that had a low water bridge.  With the recent rain the low water bridge had running water over it.

As both the motorcycle and the patrol vehicle topped the hill and then entered the water the motorcycle begin to hydroplane and slid down on its side.  The patrol vehicle also began to hydroplane and struck the rear of the motorcycle.

The rider of the motorcycle jumped up and ran south of the bridge then into the waterway and ran east approximately 500 yards down the creek.  The Deputy gave chase through the rushing water and was able to take the subject in to custody.

After the subject was placed into handcuffs he began to complain of injuries sustained during his failed attempt to cross the rushing waters.  Bates County EMS was called and transported the subject to the hospital.

During the clean up of the motorcycle wreck Deputies recovered a 45 cal handgun, drug paraphernalia and several small bags of a crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamines.

The subject was identified as Justin Blake Kimbrough of Amoret Missouri.

Kimbrough was released from the Bates County Hospital with no injuries and placed in the Bates County Jail on his previous warrants totaling $12,000 from Bates and Cass Counties.

Additional Charges from the pursuit will be submitted to the Bates County Prosecutor today.

The female does not face charges at this point.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Adrian Police Department and additional Deputies called in from home.

Hello all and happy Memorial Day.
I’d like to start by saying thank you
To my staff, drivers and race fans.

Last night was a huge night and frankly not the turn out we expected. I’ll be honest I expected about 80 cars and we got 123 So we were not totally prepared for that but the show went on and we stepped to the plate. There was no long half time there were no gaps in racing there was great racing in fact that never ended. We started about 730 and finished about 2am. 6.5 hours with 1.5. Being one class. Including the long red.

Yes we could have parked tighter and better to start. We could have added more staff to help move the gates faster. We could have worked the track better we could have bought more food. We could have had more drinks. We could have finished faster we could have started on time we could have not run out of transponders. We could have put a time limit on B-Mods. We could learn how to predict when and how many people will show up to be prepared We will learn from these things.

We always have room for improvement and if you can’t tell yet this team is that team that won’t quit until we get it there.

I want to say it’s hard to hear the fb keyboard warriors say what they say but guess what it’s part of it. We can’t make everyone happy all the time. But rest assured we will make most happy all of the time.

ECS has only had 5 races with 2 soft opening races last October. I’m damn proud of this team these drivers and these fans to WANT TO SEE THIS Track’s SUCCESS.

Just five races. And yes I see the same people say the same things about tracks that have been doing this for decades. So I have to say although it stings to here the bad it fuels me!! To be better to continue to strive for better and we will prevail.

We will be one of the top tracks in the Midwest and that’s just all there is to it. One race at a time one week at a time and one season at a time.

We weren’t blessed with great dirt so we have to find what works best for this dirt and there’s never going to be a consistent Mother Nature. She will throw you curve balls weekly. Rain wind sun clouds all in play each week.

So it’s not a routine it’s a day by day Strategy on what to do that changes everyday bc of old Mother Nature.

No excuses just actions is what this team will deliver.
I know what we need to do and we will get it done!!

From the desk of Bates County Coroner Greg Mullinax

I have the honor of encountering veterans and their families often.

When a person has passed away and I learned they are a veteran, sometimes I notice memorabilia like photos or medals around a home.

Other times I notice nothing at all, because a veteran chose mostly not to speak of their memories. For reasons very few can ever put into words.

But today, I remember all of them and my thoughts are with their families. May everybody have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Greg Mullinax
Bates County Coroner

Bear sightings near El Dorado Springs is increasing

Over the past few weeks we have received reports of Bear sightings in El Dorado Springs, first on the 1000-1100 blocks of East Patricia Street, and today on the 800 blocks of North Main and North Jackson Streets. Most likely from the descriptions given this is a young bear looking for a territory to call their own.

Bears are wild animals and will not be removed by the Police Department. If you see a bear, leave it alone! Do not approach it. Make sure it has an escape route and do not attempted to feed it.

If you want to know more about Missouri’s Black Bears or report sighting to the Missouri Department of Conservation go to https://mdc.mo.gov/wildlife/wildlife-facts/be-bear-aware.

Otherwise enjoy observing all of the wildlife found in the City of El Dorado Springs from a distance.
