The female stated, that when the suspect pulled over on a gravel road north of Adrian, she was able to use pepper spray to help her get away from the vehicle. She reported that she was physically assaulted on the gravel road prior to getting free.
The victim identified the suspect by name and gave details of the vehicle to include the plate number. The Sheriff’s Office utilized multiple social media, police network and local news outlets to get information about the suspect and his vehicle out to the public and other law enforcement agencies. Additional Deputies were called in to assist in the search for the suspect.
Shortly after 8:00pm the Sheriff’s Office was advised that the suspect in the assault was taken into custody in the Kansas City area without incident.
The suspect will be extradited back to Bates County to be interviewed to complete the investigation. After the investigation is complete the Sheriff’s Office will send the case to the Bates County Prosecutor’s Office to determine charges for alleged crimes that happened in the Bates County jurisdiction.
