In the evening of 10-22-24, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the area of 231st just west of 291 Highway after relatives noticed possible explosive ordinance in a family members basement.
On scene deputies requested assistance from the Lee's Summit Police Department Bomb Squad Unit as well as the EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) Team from Whiteman Air Force Base.
The ordinance was transported to the safest nearby location, which happened to be the APAC Quarry in rural Harrisonville.
Once there, units conducted a controlled explosion to safely destroy all of the hazardous material.
